Solid-background cleanup
Make a PNG background transparent.
Remove a white or solid-color background from a JPG, PNG, or WebP image. Sample the background, adjust tolerance and feathering, then download a measured transparent PNG.
This is a color-based cleanup tool, not an AI subject cutout. Hair, glass, shadows, gradients, and detailed scenes usually need a dedicated segmentation editor.

Use edge-connected mode first
Edge-connected mode removes matching colors only when they connect to an outer image edge. This helps preserve a white logo detail or product highlight that is isolated inside the subject. Global mode removes every matching pixel and is better for simple icons.
Adjust tolerance slowly
Low tolerance removes colors very close to the sample. Higher values include shadows and compression variation, but may erase parts of the subject. Feathering creates partially transparent edge pixels to soften a hard cut.
Know when this method is not enough
Color matching cannot understand people, products, or depth. Complex backgrounds, hair, reflections, glass, and heavy shadows require a subject-aware editor. PNGToolbox states this limit because a clean result matters more than an automatic-looking one.
Transparent PNG questions
How do I remove a white background from an image?
Choose the image, click a white background area to sample it, and start with edge-connected removal. Increase tolerance gradually until the outside background is transparent without erasing white details inside the subject.
Can I upload a JPG and download a transparent PNG?
Yes. JPG does not store transparency, but this tool can remove a solid JPG background and export the processed result as PNG with transparent pixels.
Why did part of the subject become transparent?
The sampled color may also exist inside the subject, or the tolerance may be too high. Switch to edge-connected mode, reduce tolerance, and compare the result with the original before downloading.
